My simple handmade valentine gift

Tuesday, 12 February 2019

It’s only two days left until Valentine’s Day. It’s actually my first time making something for this occasion. I think that making chocolates and cupcakes are a thing here in Japan, since the supermarkets sells a lot of chocolates, pretty boxes and chocolate gift bags. Also, have you ever watched in an Asian series or anime that, girls normally give the guy that they like chocolates during valentines? I don’t know what the guys do, though...

There are only 3 ingredients you need.

  • Plain chocolate bar 100g
  • Whipping cream 45g (measuring cups here are smaller so make that less than 45)
  • Cocoa powder
All you have to do is put the chocolate and cream in a stainless steel mixing bowl and melt it using the microwave or boil some water in a saucepan and put the bowl on top of it.  Mix well until creamy. Then, put the mixture in the box with a plastic wrap. Put in the fridge for at least an hour. After, cut it into small square pieces. Then dust with cocoa powder and you’re done. If you can’t find any box that you can use, you could do an origami box and put a baking paper on it.

Forgiveness (FebLove)

Friday, 1 February 2019
Since February is all about love, the first post I’ll be posting this month is about forgiveness.

When I changed my profile picture on Facebook, two weeks ago, I received an unexpected comment:
“True story 5 years ago naiinis ako lagi ko inaasar pinapaiyak pero you've matured.. Ganda nung tattoo mo sa shoulder ah saka. Ganda hair....”

(True story 5 years ago, I was always annoyed, I mock and made you cry, but you've matured .. Nice tattoo on your shoulder too. Beautiful hair ....)

I was lost for words. I don’t know exactly what to feel. It happened in America, 2013. I went there to do my University placement for a few months. And there, of course I met a lot of Filipinos. Like, Filipinos are all over the place, isn’t it?

We lived on the same apartment. Most of the time, he seems annoyed. I’d like to think that I’m a nice person. Still, he said a lot of mean things to me and yes, he made me cry a few times or maybe a several times. All I could remember was him, getting mad at me for no reason at all.

So basically, I had flashbacks. But of course, I already got over it. But there’s something inside me, whispering, saying, it would be nice if he could at least say sorry.

Maybe because his shy, ashamed or whatever, but I hope that he felt sorry, even though he can’t say it to me.

I think in time, as bad memories fade away, we absent-mindedly forgive and forget. Forgiveness is something we do, even though they didn’t even say that they’re sorry. Don’t let anyone change you and be bitter towards the people who hurt you. It’s about letting go, moving forward with your usual kind and loving self.
